Don’t Let that NEW HOLIDAY Social Media Campaign Ruin You!
This is a quick post in response to a few recent social media campaigns by upcoming internet marketers and others. While widening your social media scope and launching a new social media campaign may seem like the right thing to do (before the holidays), there are a few reasons you should seek advice before doing it:
1. You simply don’t know enough…not about your market but about the one your seeking to utilize. Before starting a new social media profile, like a new Facebook Page, requesting likes or searching for prospects, you should know for instance: Many Social Media Sites like Pinterest, notify your already linked friends that you’ve started a new page…before you’ve requested their follow. So make sure you’ve completely filled out your profile, updated your avatar, privacy settings and at a minimum integrated your other social media profiles that might be relevant as folks will begin vetting you right away.
2. You’re not your best & most honest critic (real talk) so you can’t be entirely objective or brutally honest! Seek the advice of not only friends, but family, peers, acquaintances, clients and even former clients honest enough to give you a real opinion.
3. You haven’t done your homework…meaning, checking out the competition. While its’ easy to look at a friends profile & think, “wow, I should do that” or “I CAN do that”, I urge you to take caution. Why, it’s because of what I said here. Every network is NOT a one size fit all. What works for one person on one network may not work for another on other networks (which is why you don’t find many fashion or hair stylist marketing their product on let’s say, Linkedin). Now, should you have a profile there…absolutely! But NOT to market your product. To market your BRAND (of course). But seek both solicited & unsolicited advice (that’s free on the internet by the way if you’d rather not pay for it).
4. You are not as experienced as you should be using the medium, i.e. Youtube! I’m deathly afraid of it because well, I’ve seen the competition and regulated that I simply don’t have the time right now running 2 businesses to invest in doing it right! But that’s me. You see, I’d rather do it right than do it for the sake of doing it!
As I wrap up this quick post (as my fingers have literally not left the page I felt such…passion on this one), I wonder if anyone shares my sentiment. Do I feel one should start where they are & use what they have? Absolutely! Including using access to the dozen or so people who you know for a fact know more about it than you do! Use that “you owe me one card” & ask…for a favor. So, do you you feel one should jump in, regardless of what they know or don’t know? Or do you agree that it’s better to seek advice before launching that new social media campaign?
Over to you! Remember what mom said & say something nice….please! Happy Holidays!
